Description
The Superteam Challenge is designed to help you identify and develop your teams’ skills via a selection of non-work related exercises which simulate the pressures of the working environment. The offbeat and varied tasks build to an enjoyable event which demonstrates the value of teamwork, and the shared experience gives players a strong team identity that can be transferred to the workplace.
Objectives
The emphasis is on problem-solving whilst having fun, fostering a greater understanding of the inter-relationship and inter-dependencies required for successful teamwork. Each team will:
- Identify the hidden skills of each team member.
- Learn to match these specific skills to different tasks.
- Monitor the team’s progress and adjust strategy accordingly.
- Modify team tactics to cater for unforeseen events.
The game can be used as part of an informal ‘away day’ exercise to reward staff for performance with a secondary team-building element. It can also be used in more formal circumstances when it can be supported by more structured introductory and debriefing sessions.
How it works
Within the Superteam Challenge, there are 11 tasks plus many further suggestions which build to make a substantial bespoke team-building exercise. The specific tasks you select depend on your objective, whether you are indoors or outdoors, how much time you have allocated, your budget, and the culture of your organisation. Your teams might find themselves deciphering nautical flags, negotiating an obstacle course blindfold, or designing hats!
The range of activities is devised to challenge and stimulate your participants and to demonstrate how team organisation and cooperation are crucial to success. The facilitator judges the tasks submitted and updates a central score chart as the event progresses, leading a post-challenge discussion to examine team performance and identify lessons learned.
What participants will be doing
In teams, assessing the tasks provided in order to match team members to the most suitable tasks and so maximise the points earned for the team. Individually or in groups carrying out these tasks.
For what levels is it appropriate?
The challenges are suitable for any group with a mixed range of skills and abilities. Tasks can be selected to encourage debate around critical areas or presented as a general selection.
Duration
Between two and eight hours, depending on the selected tasks.

An Elgood customer –
The session demonstrated the points I was hoping it would. Some tasks required attention to detail (great for the Completer-Finishers) and others allowed for creative flair (giving scope for the Plants). In fact, all of the Belbin roles were well illustrated by the Superteams Challenge so that in the debrief we were able to bring to life the theoretical material covered in the first part of the course.
The manual was clear easy to use. Only a little preparation time was necessary- and that was fun as it meant trying out the activities! The Superteams Challenge pack is extremely versatile.
